Industrial Symbiosis, Circular Economy Workshop

October 3, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

With support from the Department of Commerce, Light House (home of the National Industrial Symbiosis Program – NISP) and the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure are pleased to invite you to an Industrial Symbiosis Workshop at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport on October 3, 2019 from 10:00AM – 2:00PM.

In response to direction provided by the Washington State Legislature, the Washington State Department of Commerce is seeking input regarding the establishment an industrial waste coordination program (“IWC Program”). The IWC Program will help businesses in the state to identify and implement industrial symbiosis opportunities.

Industrial symbiosis is an industrial ecosystem where unused or residual resources of one company are used by another. This results in mutual economic, social and environmental benefits. It is a process involving several companies – firms that complement one another provide mutual added value through efficient use of raw materials, technology, services and energy.
—The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, 2019

This workshop will provide an opportunity for regional businesses to provide their input into a potential Washington State IWC Program, and to identify potential industrial symbiosis opportunities for their businesses by ‘test-driving’ the NISP model.
